Somewhere in your room there’s a wig you spent real money on, sitting in a bag, quietly matting. You loved it once. Now the ends are frizzy, the colour has gone flat, the lace has seen things — and every time you consider wearing it, you put it back.

Before you price a replacement, know this: most “finished” wigs aren’t finished. They’re just tired. A professional revamp rescues far more units than people expect — and costs a fraction of buying again. Here’s how we judge which is which.

What a professional revamp actually includes

• Deep cleanse & treatment — product build-up, dust and odour out; moisture back in.
• Detangling and reconditioning — matted lengths worked loose strand by strand, not ripped.
• Lace replacement & re-ventilation — a lifted, torn or darkened hairline rebuilt fresh.
• Structure repair — stretched bands, bent combs and loose wefts replaced or re-sewn.
• Colour refresh & restyling — faded tone brought back rich; new curls, layers or a whole new look.

When a wig is worth saving

The hair itself is good. If your unit is genuine human hair — especially if it was a premium purchase — the raw material usually outlives its styling by years. Matting, frizz, dullness and even serious tangling live in the surface, not the strand. This is the classic “revamp it” case.

The problem is the cap, not the hair. Stretched elastic, broken combs, lifted lace — structural problems are the cheapest to fix and make the biggest difference to how a unit sits.

You’re bored, not betrayed. Sometimes nothing is wrong — you’ve just worn the same look for a year. A restyle or colour refresh gives you a “new” wig for a fraction of new-wig money.

When to let it go

We’ll always tell you honestly, because revamping a wig that can’t be saved wastes your money. The honest no-go signs:

• Synthetic or heavily blended hair that has melted, frizzed from heat, or lost its pattern — that damage doesn’t reverse.
• Shedding from the base — when hair is leaving the wefts in clumps, the construction is done.
• Over-processed strands that snap when stretched. If the hair has been bleached past its limit, treatment can soften it but can’t rebuild it.
